By Gretchen Rubin The subtitle of this book by Gretchen Rubin, is “A Brief Account of a Long Life.” This book is surprisingly good. It is more informal, looking at various aspects and angles and paradoxes of Churchill’s life. The author, Gretchen Rubin, is not a historian, but a professor at Yale Law School. But clearly she has been a lifelong student of Churchill.

She includes critical views about Churchill, but she is quite positive in general. She talks about everything from his defining characteristic of belligerence to his relationship with his father, to his children, to his painting and of course to his work as Prime Minister and Statesman. There are all kinds of fascinating matters in this book. I highly recommend it.
