Israel: A Simple Guide to the Most Misunderstood Country on Earth

By Noa Tisby

This is an outstanding book.

The writer, Noa Tishby, was born and raised in Israel and now is a producer in Hollywood. She is knowledgeable, bold, sassy, and is an entertaining writer.  At times, she is also profane.  She considers herself a secular Israeli with liberal political views.

Her aim in this book is to help the world understand Israel better. She succeeds for all who will read the book. She begins with historical overviews of Israel, the Middle East, and Zionism.  For example, she deals with the Arab/Israeli conflict in the Middle East.  She deals with the BDS – the worldwide movement to boycott divestment sanctions on Israel.  This movement is popular on college campuses today and is built on widespread misunderstanding of Israel.  She also tackles the issues of settlements in the West Bank.

Tishby realized that Israel makes a lot of mistakes, but she does raise superb questions about why there seems to be particular antipathy for Israel and the Jews today.
